JTIKOR (Jurnal Terapan Ilmu Keolahragaan) welcomes rigorous, relevant, and transparent research in sport and exercise science. This page brings together the information authors need before preparing and submitting a manuscript.

1. Is your manuscript a good fit for JTIKOR?

JTIKOR aims to advance applied and translational knowledge in sport and exercise science. We are particularly interested in research with clear relevance to performance, health, physical activity, sport systems, technology, athlete development, and professional practice.

2. Article types

JTIKOR currently considers the following manuscript categories:

• Original Research Article — empirical quantitative, qualitative, mixed-methods, experimental, observational, or applied research within scope.
• Systematic Review / Meta-analysis — reproducible evidence synthesis using an appropriate review methodology and reporting standard.
• Scoping Review — systematic mapping of the literature using a transparent protocol and PRISMA-ScR or equivalent guidance.
• Methodological / Validation Study — development or evaluation of measurement, analytical, methodological, or psychometric approaches.
• Applied / Translational Study — research that connects scientific evidence with sport, exercise, coaching, performance, health, technology, or policy practice.
• Narrative Review or Case Study — considered selectively when the manuscript provides a clear scholarly contribution and is appropriate to the journal's scope.

Original research manuscripts are normally 4,000–6,000 words, excluding references, tables, and figure captions. Review manuscripts may be longer when justified by the method and scope. Scientific quality takes precedence over rigid word counts.

3. Preparing your manuscript

Language

Manuscripts must be written in clear academic English. Authors are responsible for language quality. The title, abstract, keywords, affiliations, and references entered in OJS must be complete and accurate.

Title

Use a concise, informative title that accurately represents the study. Where appropriate, identify the study design in the title or abstract.

Abstract and keywords

Provide an English abstract of no more than 250 words that clearly states the background/purpose, methods, principal results, and conclusion. Avoid citations and undefined abbreviations. Provide 4–6 specific keywords that are not simply repetitions of words in the title.

Methods

Methods should provide enough detail for scientific appraisal and, where applicable, reproducibility. Report the design, setting, participants/sample, eligibility criteria, recruitment or sampling, instruments and measurement properties, procedures, statistical or qualitative analysis, handling of missing data where relevant, ethics approval, and informed consent.

Where appropriate, report effect estimates and uncertainty (for example, confidence intervals) rather than relying only on p-values.

Tables and figures

Tables and figures must be interpretable, numbered consecutively, cited in the text, and accompanied by informative titles or captions. Authors must obtain permission for copyrighted third-party material. Image processing or alteration must not misrepresent the underlying data.

References

References must follow APA 7th edition. Provide DOIs in https://doi.org/... format where available. Authors are responsible for verifying every bibliographic element against the original source or authoritative metadata.

4. Reporting guidelines

Authors should use established reporting guidance appropriate to the study design. Examples include:

• CONSORT — randomized trials
• STROBE — observational studies
• PRISMA — systematic reviews and meta-analyses
• PRISMA-ScR — scoping reviews
• CARE — case reports
• SRQR / COREQ — qualitative research

Where a reporting guideline includes a checklist or flow diagram, authors may be asked to upload it as supplementary material. Authors should explicitly state the reporting guideline used in the manuscript where appropriate.

5. Double-blind submission

JTIKOR uses a double-blind peer review model. The identities of authors and reviewers are concealed from each other during review.

Authors should therefore:

• remove author names, affiliations, email addresses, acknowledgements, and other direct identifiers from the blinded manuscript;
• avoid self-identifying wording where it is not scientifically necessary;
• enter all author names, affiliations, countries, ORCID identifiers, and correspondence information accurately in the OJS metadata and/or separate title page as instructed;
• remove identifying metadata from the manuscript file properties where possible.

6. Required declarations

Before acceptance, all manuscripts must contain the declarations that apply to the work.

Ethics approval and consent

Research involving human participants must identify the approving ethics committee or institutional review board and the approval identifier where available. The manuscript must state how informed consent was obtained or explain the basis for an approved waiver. Research involving animals must report appropriate institutional or regulatory approval and relevant welfare standards.

Data availability statement

Authors should state where the data supporting the findings can be accessed or explain ethical, privacy, legal, contractual, or third-party restrictions. Where appropriate, authors are encouraged to share de-identified data, analysis code, protocols, and related materials in a trusted repository.

Competing interests

Authors must disclose financial, professional, institutional, personal, or intellectual interests that could reasonably be perceived to influence the work. If none exist, use: “The authors declare no competing interests.”

Funding

Identify all financial and material support, grant numbers where applicable, and the funder's role in the study and publication process. If no specific funding was received, state this explicitly.

Author contributions

JTIKOR requires a contributor statement using the CRediT taxonomy where applicable (for example: Conceptualization; Methodology; Investigation; Formal analysis; Data curation; Writing – original draft; Writing – review and editing; Visualization; Supervision; Project administration; Funding acquisition).

Acknowledgements

Acknowledge individuals or organizations that contributed to the work but do not meet authorship criteria. Obtain permission from acknowledged individuals where appropriate.

7. Research, originality, and reference integrity

JTIKOR requires original scholarly work and does not tolerate plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, duplicate publication, inappropriate text recycling, image or data manipulation, citation manipulation, or other practices that compromise the scholarly record.

Submissions may be screened using similarity-detection software. A similarity percentage is an editorial screening aid, not a standalone definition of plagiarism. Editors assess the source, extent, pattern, and attribution of overlapping material.

Citations must genuinely support the statements for which they are used. Fabricated, unverifiable, materially inaccurate, or irrelevant references may result in rejection or post-publication action. JTIKOR may verify references and DOI metadata during editorial screening and production.

8. Generative AI and AI-assisted technologies

Generative AI and AI-assisted technologies may not be listed as authors. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, citations, interpretation, and integrity of all submitted content.

If generative AI or AI-assisted technologies are used in manuscript preparation beyond routine spelling, grammar, formatting, or reference-management functions, authors must disclose the tool and the purpose of use in a dedicated statement. Authors must independently verify all AI-assisted factual claims and references.

Generative AI must not be used to fabricate, manipulate, or obscure data, images, citations, results, or research records.

9. Preprints and prior dissemination

JTIKOR considers manuscripts that have previously been posted as non-peer-reviewed preprints, provided that the preprint is disclosed at submission and its persistent URL or DOI is supplied. Posting a preprint is not considered prior journal publication.

Conference abstracts, theses, dissertations, and institutional reports may be considered when the submitted manuscript represents a substantial scholarly development and prior dissemination is fully disclosed. Duplicate publication of an already peer-reviewed journal article is not permitted.

10. What happens after submission?

1. Administrative and editorial screening. The submission is checked for completeness, scope, research integrity, ethical requirements, reporting quality, originality, and basic methodological adequacy.
2. External peer review. Manuscripts that pass initial screening are normally evaluated by at least two independent reviewers with relevant expertise.
3. Editorial decision. Reviewer recommendations inform the decision, but the handling editor or Editor-in-Chief remains responsible for the final editorial judgment.
4. Revision. Authors should provide a clear point-by-point response to reviewer and editor comments. Major revisions may be returned for re-review.
5. Production. Accepted manuscripts proceed to copyediting, layout, metadata verification, reference/DOI quality control, and publication of the Version of Record.

JTIKOR prioritizes the quality and integrity of peer review over unrealistic promises of rapid processing. Editorial timelines are targets rather than guarantees.

11. Open access, copyright, and Article Processing Charge

JTIKOR provides immediate open access to published content. Authors retain copyright in their published work. JTIKOR articles are intended to be published under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0), subject to final confirmation and consistent implementation across the article page, PDF, and metadata.

JTIKOR does not charge a submission fee. The current editorial plan specifies an Article Processing Charge (APC) of IDR 1,000,000, payable only after acceptance. Payment must not influence peer review or editorial decision-making. Authors unable to pay may request a waiver or reduction under the journal's waiver procedure.

12. Final submission checklist

Before completing submission, the corresponding author should confirm that:

• the manuscript fits JTIKOR's aims and scope and presents a clear scholarly contribution;
• the work has not been published as a peer-reviewed journal article and is not under consideration by another journal;
• any preprint, thesis, conference abstract, protocol, or related prior dissemination has been disclosed;
• all authors have approved the submission, author order, affiliations, and corresponding author;
• the blinded manuscript contains no author-identifying information;
• the English title, abstract (≤250 words), and 4–6 keywords match the manuscript and OJS metadata;
• ethical approval and informed consent are reported where applicable;
• the appropriate reporting guideline has been followed and any required checklist is ready to upload;
• data availability, competing interests, funding, author contributions, and AI-use statements are included as applicable;
• references follow APA 7th edition and DOI information has been verified where available;
• tables, figures, supplementary files, and third-party permissions are complete;
• the manuscript has been checked for research integrity, citation accuracy, plagiarism, and inappropriate text recycling.
